Robert's InSideYoga & Life Experiences
The Beginning:
Born in Queens NY 1954 to European descendants of Russia and Italy. We lived in Brooklyn, Staten Island Robert spent most of his teen and early twenties in Parsippany NJ. From a very young age 5, Robert says he always had a curiosity about why it seemed to be so hard to live well and feel free. Took his first real peep into the new age, spiritual realms in 1972 attending EST (Erhard seminar training, now Landmark education). Robert finished high school that year working for a friends limo company and then his dad's Model Making company for about 5 years before moving to Philadelphia. There he spent a lot of time volunteering at EST transformational seminars. Then he spent the next, many years through his late forties in out of relationships and a very successful computer career working for Canon USA, Siemens and an Israeli dot com company called Cognet. The next 12 years he spent working on his own. Computer support, training, and volunteering as the President of the Dobbs Ferry Westchester New York chamber of commerce. Robert has one beautiful daughter who is now 27.
Yoga Beginnings:
Robert attended classes in different forms of yoga from many different teachers and studios. He went to teacher training and workshops, gradually he began practicing almost daily. All this beginning in 1996 but found real significance in his my life from the practice in 2004.
The practice of Ashtanga Yoga, popularized by many teachers spoke to Robert immediately His main teachers were Luigi Gaccione of Ashtanga Yoga Rhode Island and Internationally know David Swenson. Over the years Robert developed his own teaching and personal practice through many hours of study and practice. It is now easy for him to teach yoga now along with many years of being a computer and software teacher and support expert. He found the consistent nature of the Ashtanga practice much more suitable in obtaining and creating the discipline so that one can create and have your own practice, among many other physical, mental, healing and spiritual attributes. Now he teaches his own variation of Ashtanga so that you can experience the joy and beauty of this practice and your InSide.
InSide Yoga how it came to life
Starting in 2007 & 2008 when many people lost jobs, life savings, homes and friends and family along with many other stabilizers in their lives, Robert was just one of the millions. Another after-effect and a long and trialing journey to 2014, he was sent to a federal prison camp for five and a half years. This opportunity afforded him many insights and a lot of time to study, practice and teach what today he believes's is essential for living life in a joyful and meaningful way. Not just for himself but all he comes into contact with these last eleven years in particular.
Robert has been in the space of the yoga community now for over twenty years and now has taught hundreds of men. Most of whom would have never taken a class much less even thought about a yoga class. Developed a practice and style that would accommodate beginners and soon to become intermediate and accomplished yogis. After teaching over 150 classes a year for 5 years the sessions have become suitable for a wide range of individuals. In addition to the physical practice, many have come to know and feel the amazing insights, InSide themselves that stay with you long after the practice session is over. And they compound, day after day, moment to moment, breath to breath.
Another person that came to Robert these past few years was being introduced to Rev. Lakshmi Barsel Ph.D. the director of the Yogaville prison project. Through their correspondence course on Patanjali's yoga sutra’s Robert and many others have advanced their understanding of what most Eastern yoga practitioners have studied and known for thousands of years. Most westerners mostly only know yoga for the physical aspects of the practice. Additionally these last few months Robert has volunteered his time assisting Lakshmi in the correspondence course activities with thousands of other men and women who are incarcerated.
Robert says he knows that your time together will be a life-changing experience without taking a lifetime. And yes it is all about the journey, not the destination. So Robert says why not make every moment of the journey like a life full of joy, love, and compassion in each and every moment? We have all heard these messages and what seems to be lofty goals to one's peace and enlightenment. Now without a lot of words and a little, consistent practice, each moment of our lives can be filled with joy and many blessings. Take a class or three, come break out of your own bonds and be free.
